Biographical Info

Trace Johnson is a multi-genre professional cellist, musician, and teacher from Madison, Wisconsin. Trace works extensively as a performer in New York, Florida, and Wisconsin, in addition to holding a cello position at the Sarasota Orchestra. Trace has shared the stage with eminent artists Midori, James Ehnes, Emmanuel Ax, Francesca Dego, Nelly, Andrea Bocelli, Kelsey Lu, Rhiannon Giddens, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenburg, Yo Yo Ma, and members of the grammy-winning ensemble, Snarky Puppy.

 

Trace is offering in-person private and group cello lessons in Madison and also online, via a virtual cello studio. Trace has been teaching for more than a decade in schools and communities around the world and is certified in Suzuki Pre-Twinkle, Book 1-2 pedagogy method. Trace is located on East Washington near East High School.

 

Trace’s students have successfully auditioned into first-chair appointments at the Palm Beach Youth Orchestra in West Palm Beach, Florida, Florida Youth Orchestra in Davie, FL, Youth Orchestra of Palm Beach County in Boca Raton, FL, and the 2020-21 All-County Middle-School Orchestra of South Florida. In 2020, Trace had several students who won auditions at the 2020-21 Florida All-State Orchestra and also some who won cash prizes in local competitions at the Festival of the Arts Youth Competition in Boca Raton, FL.

 

Trace is currently a DMA candidate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Meade-Witter School of Music as a Collins fellow.
